By Lou Bozada on Feb 7, 2023. Would it surprise you to find out that in recent Gallup polls, seven of the last 10 years to be exact, Americans expressed that government was their biggest concern? It has topped the list seven years and when it did not hold the top spot it was running in the second or third position.

To me that is no surprise at all. But what is surprising is that year after year people express their unhappiness with government.  So why are they not working towards a better solution to the failed government they have? I cannot answer that with certainty, I can only speculate.

I personally feel that to merely tell people to get involved is not broad enough. Can one simply just get involved and create change? Sure, but have they missed some important prerequisite steps? I believe this to be the case.

It’s very easy for people to get involved in a club or school board type position to help foster well needed change. The question then becomes what changes have they made in their own lives? Within their families and personal lives? With their communities and neighbors?

For example, how many times have we ourselves ask the question why were these kids out at wee hours of the morning committing crimes? To follow up with where are the parents? You see the family nucleus is our base it is our foundation built upon the rock. And that is where real change starts, in our private lives.

That change must include our marriages, our parenting, families and our very own communities. This is where respect, manners, responsibility and overall life lessons shape us and our children to be who we are.

It is no secret that we as a society are losing our moral compass. And until we come to terms with our own short comings how can we create positive long lasting change for others?

So, if you are unhappy with the government at any level, looking at ourselves and changing things from the grassroots up is how we better shape our children and our future. Will this fix everything? No. There are no guarantees. But obviously it is better than the path we are on now.

We all have a choice, we can continue to just tolerate and ignore the problem and hope for something better to come. Or we start with ourselves and our communities and create good moral change in the form of seeds and watch them grow upward and expand.

Matthew 7:15-20

Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
